At FARA, we believe that women and girls are never defined by the trauma they have experienced.
Across the world, women and girls experience violence, discrimination, abuse, inequality and adversity. These experiences may become part of a person's story, but they should never become their identity.
More Than What Happened to Her is our guiding belief and the heart of everything we do. It is an invitation to reclaim voice, reconnect with community, and remember that healing, growth and hope are possible.
Whether you are looking for connection, learning, creativity, peer support or simply a place where you can be heard and believed, FARA offers welcoming spaces where women and girls can learn alongside one another.
Each summer we host our More Than What Happened to Her global programme, bringing together women and girls from around the world to explore healing, relationships, creativity, wellbeing and personal growth through a series of online learning sessions, workshops and community gatherings.
The programme welcomes women and girls from all backgrounds, cultures and experiences, creating opportunities to connect across countries and communities.
FARA offers both online retreats and in-person residential retreats, providing time and space to slow down, reconnect with yourself and others, and experience the restorative power of community.
Our retreats combine dialogue, creativity, reflective practice, wellbeing activities and opportunities for rest, recognising that healing often happens through relationships and shared experience.

Throughout the year we share podcasts, blogs, conversations and theory sessions exploring topics including:
These resources are designed to inspire, educate and connect women and girls wherever they are in the world.
Each year, FARA hosts an International Women's Day Conference, bringing together women, girls, researchers, practitioners, educators, community leaders and allies from across the world.
Through keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions and shared dialogue, we explore the issues that matter most to women and girls while celebrating strength, creativity and collective action.
The conference is open to everyone who shares our commitment to creating a more equitable and compassionate world.
One of the most powerful ways we learn is through one another.
We warmly invite women and girls to contribute to FARA by sharing:
Your contribution does not need to be about trauma. It can be about joy, identity, culture, creativity, relationships, recovery, community or anything that reflects who you are.
By sharing your work, you may inspire another woman or girl to feel less alone, discover hope, or recognise her own strength.
Whether you want to attend a workshop, take part in our summer programme, join a retreat, contribute your creativity, volunteer, become a researcher or simply stay connected, there is a place for you within FARA.
Together, we are building a global community where women and girls are recognised as more than what happened to them—where every voice matters, every story has value, and every person is supported to flourish.

The website should feel like a global women’s healing and education organisation. It should be warm and relational but also powerful, informed and change focused. The central message is that women and girls are more than their trauma.
FARA does not define women by what happened to them — it supports them to reclaim identity, dignity, voice and future.
